Terms of Service
The short version: be a decent person, verify your UCSD email to get inside, check Discord for the real details on any event, and know that paid purchases (Exclusive Membership, event tickets) are final. You are responsible for your own actions and safety, and the Club is not liable for what happens at or because of its events. The full terms are below.
Who this applies to
These terms cover anyone who uses the Socially Dead website or app, joins the members portal, or attends an event, meetup, or Discord community run by Socially Dead Social Club ("the Club"). Socially Dead is a student-run community affiliated with UC San Diego.
The members portal
Access to event details, RSVP information, and the Discord invite is limited to people who verify a @ucsd.edu email address. We use that email only to confirm eligibility and, if you RSVP, comment, or post a community event, to keep a record that you did and to show your name to other members alongside that activity.
Your profile and posts
Your Instagram handle is required so other members can find and follow you (Apple/Google’s app-review demo account is the one exception); your profile photo and bio are optional. You’re responsible for what you post — a community event, a comment, a profile photo or bio — and for keeping it accurate and appropriate; we can remove any content that violates these terms. If you’ve been made a rep for a partnered club, posts you make on that club’s behalf are the club’s responsibility as well as your own.
Emails from the Club
By creating an account, you consent to receive emails from the Club at the email address on your account — for example event announcements, newsletters, the Weekly Wave, membership and ticket updates, and other Club news. Some emails go only to Exclusive Members. You can unsubscribe at any time by messaging us through the Club’s Instagram or Discord — we’ll mark your account as unsubscribed and leave you off every future Club email (including Exclusive Member emails) until you ask to be added back. We may still contact you directly about your account or a purchase you made.
Acceptable use
Don’t use the site, app, portal, or Discord to harass or endanger other members, misrepresent your identity or UCSD affiliation, submit spam or abusive content, attempt to circumvent rate limits or other abuse-prevention measures, or attempt to access the members portal without a valid @ucsd.edu account. We can remove access for anyone who violates these terms or a venue’s or Discord’s own rules — see our Privacy Policy for how that "blacklisting" works. If you report content to us, do so in good faith — knowingly false reports are themselves a violation of these terms.
Payments and purchases
Exclusive Membership and some event tickets are paid purchases, processed securely by Stripe at the price shown at checkout — we never see or store your card details. These are real-world memberships and event admissions, not digital content or in-app currency. All sales are final; we don’t offer refunds except at the Club’s own discretion (for example, an event that’s cancelled outright). Exclusive Membership runs through the end of the UCSD academic quarter(s) it covers and doesn’t auto-renew — you’re only ever charged when you actively choose to buy or extend it. The free shirt is included with the annual Exclusive Membership only (not the quarterly plan), is sized to whatever you select after purchase and is subject to availability; we’ll do our best to get you the size you picked but can’t guarantee it if a size runs out.
Third-party links
"Our Perks" and some community event RSVP links point to external, third-party sites we don’t control. We’re not responsible for the content, availability, or practices of those sites once you leave ours.
No warranty
Event details (dates, times, locations) are provided as-is and may change or be cancelled without notice — always confirm details in the Discord before showing up. The site, app, and portal are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, to the extent allowed by law.
Assumption of risk
Attending any event, meetup, or gathering organized, promoted, or listed by the Club — including events hosted by members, partnered clubs, venues, or other third parties — involves inherent risks, including but not limited to personal injury, illness, property loss or damage, and the actions of other attendees. You voluntarily and knowingly assume all such risks, whether foreseen or unforeseen, and you are solely responsible for your own conduct, safety, health, belongings, and decisions before, during, and after any event, including travel to and from it and any consumption.
Member responsibility
You are solely and fully responsible for all of your own actions and omissions, online and in person, whether on the site, app, portal, or Discord, or at or in connection with any Club event. This includes anything you post, say, or do, and any interaction you have with another member or third party, whether or not it was initiated through the Club. The Club does not supervise, screen, or endorse its members, does not conduct background checks, and is not responsible for the conduct of any member, attendee, partnered club, venue, or other third party. Any dispute between you and another person is strictly between you and that person.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Socially Dead Social Club, its founders, officers, admins, representatives, volunteers, and affiliates (the "Club Parties") shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any injury, death, illness, loss, theft, damage to property, or other harm of any kind, arising out of or related to your use of the site, app, portal, or Discord, your attendance at any event, your interactions with any other person, or any act or omission of any member or third party — regardless of the legal theory asserted, and even if the Club Parties have been advised of the possibility of such harm. Where liability cannot be fully excluded by law, the Club Parties’ total aggregate liability to you for all claims is limited to the amount you actually paid the Club in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or fifty U.S. dollars ($50), whichever is less. You waive, release, and forever discharge the Club Parties from any and all claims, demands, and causes of action arising from the foregoing, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Club Parties from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or in any way connected with: (a) your use of the site, app, portal, or Discord; (b) your attendance at any event; (c) content you post or submit; (d) your violation of these terms or any applicable law or venue or university policy; or (e) your acts or omissions that cause harm to yourself, another person, or property.
Affiliation with UC San Diego
The Club is a student-run community affiliated with UC San Diego. This affiliation does not make the Club an agent, employee, or department of the Regents of the University of California or UC San Diego, and the Club’s views, events, and activities are those of the Club alone. To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither the Regents of the University of California nor UC San Diego, nor their officers, employees, or agents, is responsible or liable for the Club, its events, its members, or any claim arising from them. Nothing in these terms creates an employment, agency, partnership, or fiduciary relationship between you and the Club.
Governing law and severability
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect. The Club’s failure to enforce any right or provision is not a waiver of it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Club grows. Continued use of the site, app, or portal after a change means you accept the updated terms. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date below.
